Derek Wilson

Derek is the eldest in his family. He was born November 29,1950 at a place called Butedale (Princess Royal Island) which is located south of Prince Rupert. His origin is of the Kitlope Tribe which translates to people of the rock. His traditional First Nations name translates to (NO one can reach the top of his head). His dad is the head chief of his
tribe. Derek has been carving since 1958. His uncle Henry Robertson taught him how to carve with wood. He then moved into carving silver & gold which he learned on his own. He presently resides in Vancouver. His parents are the late Wilfred Wilson & his mother is Beatrice Wilson. His hobbies include watching horse races & he carves full time for his living. He understands his language which is the Haisla dialect. There is 7 boys & 5 girls in his family. He belongs to the killer whale clan. His grandmother was Tshimshian & his grandfather was Kitlope.
