Ron LaLarochelle
Tsimshian Artist

Ron was born in Prince Rupert, B.C. to Victor & Doris
Larochelle, August 14, 1949. He grew up & attended school in the Queen Charlotte Islands better known as Haida Gwaii. Ron credits Robert Williams, Robert Davidson & mother for teaching & inspiring him to become an artist. He has been doing first nations artwork since 1959 when he was 10 years old. His entire family helps him in doing his artwork. Both his sons, his daughter, & his wife all are gifted artisans & help Ron in gathering cedar bark for his hats. Ron completed his education at Vancouver Tech & went to B.C.I.T. for three years of graphic art. When Ron isn’t doing his artwork, he also is a drywaller, painter, & also is a marble tile setter. He apprenticed under Robert Davidson, Clade Davidson, Robert Williams, Rufus Moody, Clarence Wells, & George Reid. He spends a lot of his time in different schools showing the children how to weave, carve, & shares the history of his people. Ron enjoys teaching & sharing his culture with those willing to learn the ways of his people.
